Born in County Offaly
to musician parents, Attracta grew up on a farm surrounded by all things rural
She commenced her musical journey at four
years old, learning tin whistle with her twin sister from their father, John.
Their mother, Eileen was always on hand to encourage practice. Attracta
graduated to the flute and fiddle at around nine years old and has played both
instruments since. As a competitor in Fleadhanna Ceoil, she won several All
Ireland titles both at underage and senior levels.
A teacher of Irish and Geography by
profession, Attracta also teaches fiddle, flute, and whistle to advanced senior
standard and most traditional instruments to beginner and intermediate
standard. She has tutored at many summer
schools and workshops in Ireland, Britain and Europe. She has extensive
experience of traditional ensemble performance and solo performance and
achieved a first class honours masters in traditional music performance from UL
in 2007. She is an acclaimed adjudicator at traditional competitions and has
adjudicated at county and provincial Fleadhanna and at Fleadh Cheoil na
hÉireann for many years.
Attracta is the current Cathaoirleach of
Leinster Comhaltas, a member of the Coiste Oideachais and a board member of the
Comhaltas SCT examination system. She is also on the Ard Comhairle of
